Sports610 Radio’s J&R Raise $70k for the Fort Bend County Women’s Center

What started as a casual conversation at a Fort Bend Junior Service League meeting turned into a larger-than-life fundraiser for the Fort Bend County Women’s Center thanks to the generous listeners of Sports610 Radio’s J&R show. During their weeklong Yuletide Drive, Josh Innes and Rich Lord broadcasted from various locations in the Houston and Sugar Land area and urged listeners to donate to the Women’s Center by bringing diapers, wipes and other necessities, as well as financial donations to the broadcast locations. One generous listener, who has asked to remain anonymous, made a total donation of $30k!

“We couldn’t have even dreamed that the Yuletide Drive would have brought so many donations into our agency!” commented Women’s Center executive director, Vita Goodell, “We lost a grant earlier this year and this has really helped fill the hole left by the grant. Besides the financial benefit, just having Josh and Rich talk about the Women’s Center and domestic and sexual abuse has done so much for getting our message out to the Houston area. We want people to know that we’re here and we can help. And even better, we want to get men involved with increasing awareness. We couldn’t have asked for a better forum!”

The Women’s Center received more than $70k in pledges and goods donated thanks to the J&R Yuletide Drive. The daily four-hour show included auctions with sports memorabilia, game tickets and more that listeners could call-in bids on with all proceeds going to the Women’s Center. Pledges were received by SportsRadio 610 listeners, including former and current NFL players, local celebrities and business owners. The Women’s Center wishes to thank Josh, Rich, SportsRadio 610 and all their listeners!
