Impact, Empower and Engage

Help us fight violence by bringing the Women's Center's new workshop series to your child's school or youth organization (scouts, club, etc.). This series was designed to engage individuals, both males and females, to become integral actors in the prevention of not only sexual violence but violence in general. We can tailor it to fit your unique environment and present all, a few or just one of the workshops. Please contact Amber Paaso
(281-344-5759 or for more information. Workshop synopsis

Did You Get This From a Friend?

Subscribe to the Fort Bend County Women's Center eNewsletter here

Dear Kolbe,

A few weeks ago I drove my youngest child to her first year of college. We were both a whirlwind of mixed emotions. For my daughter, I'm sure she was excited about this new adventure, yet apprehensive about being on her own, the challenges her classes would present and of course, what friends would be made. For me as a parent - I am proud of her accomplishment in gaining acceptance to university and her independence, but I will miss her and worry about how she is adapting. I'm sure a lot of you experienced similar emotions as you dropped children off at dorm rooms or waved good-bye at school buses. Some of my staff were in tears just trying to make it until 2 o'clock when their pre-schoolers finished their first day!

I mention our back-to-school experiences because with every new life experience we undertake, there is hope, but there is also a fear and hesitation of the unknown. I can only imagine the decision to leave an abusive situation is a hundred-, maybe a thousand-fold more difficult to undertake. When someone comes to the Women's Center, they will begin a new violence-free positive life experience. They will gain an independence that they may never have had, but they will also experience many hard and sometimes daunting tasks - finding a job, finding a home, getting an education. Thank you for joining them and us on this journey. It's made easier with your hands to hold!

Shred Day

A big thank you to Vista Bank Texas, ShredPro, the St. Laurence Leos and all our volunteers and donors for making Shred Day 2012 a big success! We collected oodles of school supplies, raised money to buy more and in the process were able to help many of you by professionally shredding your private documents. Can't wait to do this again next year!

Fort Bend Regional Council

Fort Bend Regional Council (FBRC) knows how important it is to provide leardership for the kids at the Women's Center in order to break the cycle of domestic violence and substance abuse. One of the amazing ways they do this is by helping to keep our kids busy over the summer. This summer, FBRC took the children on field trips to the museums, engaged them in arts and crafts, held splash days and showed the kids productive ways to spend their break! Thank you FBRC!

Back to School Donation Drive

A big THANK YOU to all the donors to our Back to School donation drive. Every year we are able to send our youngest clients back to school properly with the right tools because of you. Having a new backpack, sharp pencils and a new notebook can put the biggest smile on the face of a child. Thank you for helping us to take care of these little souls!
